What is Ephemera?

Ephemera is anything of very short life or duration. As far as pen and ink related ephemera goes, things included in this category are invoices, billheads, package enclosures, letters, envelopes - in general pieces of paper that were not originally intended to be saved.

Many pen and ink collectors acquire ephemera to display along with their collections. Ephemera is also an excellent resource for researching your pen and ink collection.

Parker Holiday Cards

P756
Holiday Card

Unusual oversize Parker Holiday card dates to the late 1950s and has a Parker imprint on back with the Oval-Arrow symbol: The Parker Pen Company Printed in USA 9-58. I think they would have been given by Parker sales people, but I could be wrong on that. Measures 5.5 x 11 7/8 inches and is printed in full color on very heavy stock. There is a die cut inside where something would have been inserted, a pen? Die cut is too small for a business card. Shows some drawer wear, there are ink scribbles on the back side The front is in very good condition. Inside: With Best Wishes for the New Year

Sheaffer Paintings Exhibit
Commemorative Poster

Sheaffer Art Exhibit Poster

During the month of November 2005, 13 original works of art by distinguished artists Andrew Loomis, Coles Phillips, Frederic Mizen, John Newton Howitt and Lester Bentley were exhibited at the Fort Madison Art Center. These paintings were commissioned by Sheaffer Pen from the 1920s - 1940s and had never before left the halls of Sheaffer headquarters in Fort Madison, Iowa.

50 posters were made for the exhibit and all proceeds from the posters go to the Fort Madison Art Center who graciously sponsored the Sheaffer Paintings exhibit.

The poster measures 11 x 17 and is printed in full color on heavy gloss stock. The photo featured is by Andrew Loomis.

Inkmaker Pen Directions & Ink Battery - Graphomatic Corp Inkmaker Pen Directions Sheet and Ink Battery. Bright pink illustrated instruction sheet and the battery are all folded neatly into a small wax paper pouch. The instruction sheet is 7x10 inches and the little pouch is 2x3 inches. I don't recall ever seeing an Inkmaker fountain pen before and after reading these instructions on how to refill it, I think I'm glad! None the less, it's a pretty nifty look into the past at fountain pen filling systems, even one that didn't make it to the big time! The pink instructions are in very good condition and the ink batteries all seem to be fully intact. The wax paper pouches show some wear. How many people do you know who have a new old stock ink battery?!?!

Norman Rockwell Santa Folder - Beautiful illustration of Santa studying the world, note the quill pen tucked behind his ear! This came to me with a group of 1940s Christmas Cards and I suspect it is from the same era. High quality lithographs on heavy ivory stock. This is a folder - Santa and the world on the front, inside front and back and the back cover are all blank. Measures 8 3/8 x 10 7/8 inches. Perhaps designed to hold an 8x10 photo? The size would be right! Perfect unused condition.

Parker-Waterman-PaperMate Note Cards and Envelopes - From the era when Gillette owned these pen companies. The back side of the card's imprint is fascinating, it reads: Arrow Park site featuring the Path of Nathions. The path is composed of native stones collected from the world's free nations and territories in which Parker pens were sold at the time of its dedication. Behind each, on appropriate occasions, flies its national flag. "This Path of Nations symbolizes our belief that two-way trade with other nations, with an advantage and a a profit at both ends, is the only really practicable way to attain peace on this earth" Kenneth Parker, 15 October 1952" Fold over note cards are blank inside, measure 6.5 x 4.25inches and come with matching white envelopes. Original Kaweco and Ko-Mio Poster Stamps from Germany

Poster stamps were made primarily between 1890 - 1940 and are as the name suggests posters in stamp size. Most feature brilliant colors & many times quite simple, but eyecatching artwork. Poster stamps were used as advertising and affixed to invoices, envelopes & other correspondence. Some of the poster stamps listed below are from actual pen or ink companies, some are from other fields, but all have artwork featuring pens, inks or writing. Poster stamps have become quite collectible and are becoming harder to find in good condition. All of the ones listed below are in excellent condition!
