You could be the owner of a one of a kind desk set with origins at the Sheaffer Pen factory in Fort Madison, Iowa. Our retail shop in Fort Madison will be closed Thursday, Nov 5 thru Monday, Nov 9. The shop will re-open Tuesday, Nov 10th at 10 am and we will resume regular hours. While we are at the Ohio Pen Show, we will acknowledge all orders and email inquiries. Shipping will be suspended. 2009 - Don't be alarmed, it's all good news! We've been
doing a little housecleaning and minor construction work on our Inks and Refills section of the website today. Just a brief recap of the work we've done which we hope will make things easier for those of you searching for inks and refills. NEW: Other RB-BP Refills button to link to any ballpoint & roller ball refills we have that are not a name brand listed already. You'll find Schmidt and some others here now. We did this because while Schmidt refills are very popular and fit oodles of different pens, not everyone is familiar with the name Schmidt. NEW: Other Converters button to link to converters that are not a name brand listed already. Here, you'll find Monteverde mini converters and Schmidt standard international converters. Both of these fit a wide variety of fountain pens. NEW: Other Inks button links you to fountain pen inks and cartridges that we don't normally stock and have limited quantities of. Good place to check for good deals, too. |

September 29, 2009 - 4:30 PM in the Heartland - Around 9:30AM CT this morning, our web host had a "Catastrophic Core Router" meltdown, meaning our website along with every other website they host went down. includng their own! Took out our email just for good measure, too. I know they were working hard to restore service although it never seems fast enough when your business has crashed, but it seems all is up and running again at Pendemonium. The best I can determine at this point is that we lost any email and orders you may have sent between about 9:30AM CT and 3PM CT. If you tried to contact use during that time frame, we hope you'll try again and we will reply as quickly as we can. Thanks for your patience!

July 13,
2009 - We had a great weekend and hope you did, too! Thought
you might enjoy a few photos we took in southeast Iowa on Saturday. ![]() Bonaparte's Retreat ![]() View from the gardens at Bonaparte's Retreat Next door to Bonaparte's Retreat is a good sized antique & collectibles mall. More pens on display! Hooray! Two out of three shops having pens in a very small village is not the norm. Better still, there was a small handful that we brought back to Pendemonium. One of which was a Parker Laboratory T-Ball Jotter. This is a dangerous mall since they also have a little stand in the back with decadent homemade fudge. Of course, we had to bring some of that back with us, too. We picked chocolate mint out of variety of hard to pick from flavors. ![]() Sheaffers, Parkers & Fudge found here! Back on the road, we made our way a few miles down the road to Bentonsport. We struck out on finding any pens at the Greef General Store, but did see a stunning inlaid wood writing box. It needed some work and was missing the inkwells and a little above what I wanted to pay, so we admired it, but left it for someone else. The Greef General Store For a tiny village, there are lots of things to see in Bentonsport: scenic river views, quaint shops and well tended gardens. ![]() This carving in a tree caught our eye! We even went to Vernon on the other side of the bridge from Bentonsport. Vernon long ago disappeared, but from what I'm told it was once a thriving little river port. Just a nice sign commemorating the town now and some beautiful old stone homes. ![]() The cute building was the Bentonsport post office in days gone by. The bridge is open to foot traffic only over the Des Moines River to Vernon. We continued winding down the road toward Cantril. Everyone tells us go to Cantril, go the Dutchman's General Store, so we heeded their advice and good advice, it was! This store was so much fun. It's huge (about a block long storefront) and a combination of regular grocery store type stuff, plus a whole bunch more. Most impressive was the huge selection of re-packaged bulk foods, many of them things that you just don't find in your average grocery store like 20 different varieties of flour, loose tea in small containers perfect for trying a few new flavors out and an entire wall of candy by the pound - our granddaughter came back with all sorts of little bags of fun candies. I wish I had the cooler along, because there was a fantastic cheese selection. Then there was a huge area devoted to old fashioned bolts of fabric and sewing supplies. A section filled with books and school supplies. They even had home made laundry detergent. I don't think I'd ever buy a 50LB bag of carrots, but there was a woman pushing her cart with one while we were there. And a delightful selection of fresh baked goods. Aside from the candy purchases, we came home with coarse ground wheat flour, Parmesan, containers of loose tea, fresh baked Italian Parmesan/Herb bread, a lemon angel food cake and all sorts of other little things to try. Definitely have to get back there with my list and the cooler! ![]() The fabulous Dutchman's General Store Aside from the Dutchman's Store in Cantril, we didn't see too much in the way of pen hunting places there. This could be do to all the commotion around the store itself though and the fact that Cantril is quite a small village! Eastward on Hwy 2, we went through Farmington, but didn't stop today. From there it was over to the Highway of the Saints which is Hwy 218 and runs from St. Louis to St. Paul, thus the name. Since we had all this food from Dutchman's, we thought a stop at Dave's Meat Market in Montrose would be appropriate before we headed toward home. Dave's has fresh meat that he cuts himself, old fashioned butcher store where you can look through the glass and pick out which piece of meat you would like. We selected two steaks to bring home for the grill. Dave wrapped them up and rung us up and sent us on our way. Montrose is a cute and very old town right on the Mississippi and directly cross river from Nauvoo, IL ![]() Dave's in Montrose, Iowa |
